What is a Hazard?

An unsafe activity or condition that can contribute to an incident, if left uncontrolled or unmanaged is a hazard. It usually consists of energy of some sort. Different types of energy can be mechanical, chemical, electrical, kinetic, or potential (stored). So, a fork-lift truck is not alone a hazard, but if it is in motion or running it definitely can be considered a hazard. A shot-gun is not a hazard either. When a person is holding the gun, then that can potentionally be a hazard. Water spilt in a walking area can be a hazard because it is a circumstance or condition. I could go on and on with examples, but I think now it is pretty self-explanatory.
